Online survey on Socio-economic Sciences and Humanities (SSH) in FP7
20/08/2010

The project NET4SOCIETY is calling on researchers and stakeholders from around the world to share their views and experiences with the socio-economic sciences and humanities research in the first half of the 7th European Framework Programme. To facilitate this, a public online survey has been opened.

The survey particularly targets socio-economic and humanities researchers who have either submitted proposals in FP7 or gained experience in FP5 or FP6. Researchers who follow European research yet deliberately decided against  participating in FP7 are also welcomed to share their insights.

The results of the survey will help to draw up recommendations on how to improve conditions for SSH researchers in FP7 and beyond and will feed into a report on “SSH experiences with FP7”. Participation in the survey therefore presents a unique opportunity for researchers and stakeholders to give feedback to the European Commission.

Attention: extended deadline
The online survey will be open until 8 September 2010 and is available at www.net4society.eu/survey.

The survey is undertaken in the context of the FP7-funded project NET4SOCIETY. NET4SOCIETY is the international network of National Contact Points (NCP) for SSH in FP7.  The NCP-FNRS is actively participating in the network.

ESWIRP
26/07/2010

ONERA, the French aerospace lab and a member of CLORA,   is coordinating an FP7 Infrastructure project called ESWIRP (European Strategic Windtunnel Improved Research Potential) which started last November. One of the major activities within this project (mandatory in fact for this type of projects) is to offer to the research community "transnational access"  into the 3 large strategic windtunnels involved in the project. In order to raise awareness  within the research community about this access  opportunity, the ESWIRP consortium is organising a first open workshop in Cologne where one of the 3 ESWIRP windtunnels is located. The workshop is intended for researchers to express and share their ideas in terms of windtunnel test experiments they would like to perform  in one or the other of the 3 ESWIRP windtunnels and  for ESWIRP partners to describe their windtunnels and the prevailing conditions for transnational access. The attached invitation letter has been prepared to that effect.
Additional workshops are planned later in the other 2 windtunnels (ONERA in Modane, France, and DNW near Emmelord , the Netherlands)

DESCA - MODEL GA
26/07/2010

As you know, representatives from industry, research institutes and universities have developed a model consortium agreement called DESCA in order to facilitate the execution of FP7 projects. After around 3 years of experience with FP7 projects DESCA developed an electronic questionnaire to consult stakeholders and invite them to give their opinion on how the DESCA model works in practice and whether improvements are needed.

The aim of this questionnaire is to listen to your real-world experience and to collect lessons learnt on the general approach and the specific articles of DESCA 2.0. Your answers to the questionnaire and your possible suggestions for modifications and/or amendments will help us to improve the current model DESCA 2.0, if necessary.
The DESCA core group will treat your information confidentially and will only use it for the purposes of the DESCA midterm review.

It will take you approximately 15-30 minutes to fill in this questionnaire, depending on your input.

EUROPE 2020

The European Council has finally agreed on the key points of the Europe 2020 Strategy
The heads of state and governments of the European Union finally approved the Europe 2020 Strategy, based on the proposal of the European Commission, at the European Council last week in Brussels (Belgium).
The Europe 2020 Strategy substitutes the Lisbon Strategy that was in place over the last ten years. It should be recalled that along with sustainable growth (low carbon, resource efficient and competitive economy) and inclusive growth (high employment economy with social cohesion), the knowledge-innovation-digital economy has been highlighted as a priority area in the new Strategy. The strategy also emphasises the need for a European digital agenda by setting an aim for all-European access to high speed internet by 2013.

New changes expected to make funds more accessible to businesses and SMEs
07/06/2010

The European Commission has announced changes to the Financial Regulation and its implementing rules with the aim of stimulating innovation and growth.

According to the Commission, the amendment will make European Union (EU) funds more accessible to businesses, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and researchers. The move involves cutting red tape, saving costs for beneficiaries and providing more scope for combining public and private funding for a bigger investment impact. The moves are aimed at ensuring that EU funding focuses on rewarding performance, among other things.

The changes were adopted on 28th May 2010. They are expected to deliver the new generation of EU programmes post 2013.
